An extended interview after BCIS Avenir Business Competition
Both climate mitigation and adaptation are essential from a social perspective. Investment institutions seek out projects that align with their interests and explore specific business and revenue models accordingly. However, the alignment process between grassroots organizations and funding entities takes time, as it requires matching capabilities and financial resources.
Three,
In a world of venture capital, scale-up competition, and high returns, what's the next step for social innovation and impact investing for start-ups?
Impact investing has experienced a relatively slow development in recent years. However, investments in technology-driven advancements and the climate sector have reached a desirable level. In the future, it is expected that such investments will increasingly focus on technology-driven solutions while maintaining a certain correlation with traditional investments, such as scale and revenue prospects. Some investors are considering social impact audits to quantify the societal effects of their investments. Traditional investments primarily focus on risk and financial returns, whereas impact investments add the dimension of impact. Thus, quantifying impact is a crucial concern for investors and grassroots entrepreneurs to address.
For more profit-challenging projects, including humanitarian aid, disaster management, and social inclusion, institutions are exploring ways to monetize them. It is worth attempting, as there may be opportunities in the future to further refine monetization methods and expand into other fields. But there is a growing trend and interest in this sector.
As of suggestions to the younger generation, it is important for young people to start with small-scale original innovations, such as products, activities, or projects, to test the waters. When embarking on their own projects, it provides the fastest way to connect with people in the field and learn about the methods and practices within that domain. It serves as an excellent starting point. I recommend paying attention to the development across industries, domains, and disciplines as it may present opportunities for a broader perspective and deeper understanding of various matters. Feel free to place yourself in interdisciplinary approaches and potentially uncover new opportunities in previously unexplored areas.
